Thank You Card

I created a Thank You card to send out to people who had sent their condolences to the Hicks family following the loss of William Roger Hicks.

Due to him having been a gardener, spending a lot of his time outdoors and his wife & his favourite flower being the poppy I created a poppy that could be used as a boarder for the card. It has a simple design consisting of five red petals, darker red lines to create the illusion of the creases that a poppy would have and the black centre. The poppies were duplicated and evenly spread around the edge. A shadow was added to each poppy to add depth to the card.

The cross was created by making the shape and duplicating it to make it appear 3D. The duplicate was recoloured grey and the anchor points adjusted so two crosses would attach, making them appear to be one. The Texturizer and Spatter textures were added, giving a rustic look.

Finally a grey background was applied, as the white background appeared very harsh and the text that the family provided was added. There were two versions of the card exported as the family had both French and English friends and relatives to send the card to.

Cinematography | DMA Entry 2020

Within Demon Media we have an annual awards show, the Demon Media Awards (DMAs). As being my final year at university and a member of Demon Media I took the chance to display what I have learnt over the past three years.

I’ve branched out into filming a wider range of projects and have learnt how to showcase a variety of products and events in the best way possible. Alongside beginning to work on how making my filming even more interesting and put my own style on things.

Being able to have fun while filming is one of the most important things for me and one of my highlights has to be the Halloween hunt with DemonFM as it was so diverse and I had to act quickly in order to capture everything Rudy was doing.

I’ve also enjoyed improving my event footage, the welcome weekend and Movember charity darts event being key examples. I was able to get really creative with the ways I showcased the range of activities at welcome weekend so freshers could see what they could catch on the second day. I often use a Canon 5D MIII however this isn’t always the most appropriate camera so I took the darts event as an opportunity to experiment with another brand, due to its low lighting. I chose the Sony a7SIII which was a great choice, I was able to boost the ISO without making my footage grainy and loved having a new challenge to fulfil.

Not only have I been experimenting with cameras but also lenses. I love using the 50mm and know that a kit lens is very versatile. When given the opportunity I found an 85mm or 35mm can get a much crisper image and are definitely lenses I will be using again.

24 Hours in the Library

The library is a very key area for a lot of students and there are very mixed views about having 24 hour access to libraries. I wanted to look more into whether having 24 hour access can be beneficial or impede students progression. De Montfort University (DMU) was the perfect location for this due to it having 24 hour access to the Kimberlin Library and hosting students completing a range of courses. From Medicine and Law to Drama and Product Design all of DMU’s students have the opportunity to use the library at any given moment of the year.

To look into this further I produced a 5 minute documentary in which I interviewed a member of staff and a student from DMU Alongside this I spent 24 hours in the library with another student from my course. This allowed me to capture exactly what the library can be like at all times of the day as well as get views from individuals that spend a great deal of time in the building.

The documentary has a great mix of informative facts alongside a more comedic element added by the girls spending 24 hours in the library. This will effectively grasp the audiences attention while providing the unbiased details required.

Demon TV 2019/20

Demon TV has been an incredibly difficult, exciting and valuable time during the final year of my degree. A great deal of this can be seen in the video Demon TV 2019/20 which I produced for a NaSTA entry. NaSTA is The National Student Television Association which hosts a conference and awards each year for student stations from all around the UK to attend. NaSTA 2020 has been postponed until October due to the current situation with Corona virus however this wasn’t announced until after all of our award nominations had been submitted.

Each year the Demon TV team comes together to showcase what we’ve done over the past year and this year was no different. We have produced a range of amazing content that we could all be so proud of and to showcase this, and enter the best broadcaster category I created the video Demon TV 2019/20.

This is an up beat video to give the judges, and viewers an insight into what Demon TV creates. Although the year hasn’t quite gone how we expected we have definitely made the most of it and this video is the perfect memoir to look back on.
